The ZM Live Lounge Sessions 09
Every year for the last five years, ZM in association with iTunes have organised 5 top New Zealand bands to perform live in York Street in front of 30 or 40 liseners.. The bands play eight songs live and York Street records the performance. Late at night we mix 5 of these songs per band and have them ready for airplay on ZM the next day and then the tracks are available for download on iTunes very soon after. This year we had Midnight Youth, Motocade, Nathan King, The Checks and Jordon Luck. A great week! These Photographs were taken by Auckland Photographer Steve Dykes.

One Million Dollars Live / August 07
What a day to be working at a studio! Local band One Million Dollars recorded their latest album totally live in front of a "studio audience" The result sounds fantastic and the atmosphere in the studio that day was captured in the recording. A huge job for York Street Head engineer Justin Maudesley and his assistants and they pulled it off without a hitch. The resulting mixes are on high rotate at York Street..You have to get this album, these guys are tight as! Photos taken by George Chang.

Three houses down
Three houses down album was recorded here at York Street in May 2007. This root Reggae album was essentially tracked live, with all members of the band playing at once. (by local producer Nick Manders) The playing was fantastic, the staff were well catered for food wise ( which we love!) and the Kava was flowing freely. What a wonderful session to be involved with. Another good few weeks at work!

York Street Studio NEVE Console
The heart of our control room is our vintage 1974 EMI Neve. There were 7 of these fantastic sounding consoles made by the legends at Neve specifically for EMI studios around the world, one of which was in Wellington New Zealand. We were able to track down all of our console's relatives. One is at U2’s studio in Dublin, one is at ICP studios in Brussels, Belgium, two have been put together as one large console and is in Steakhouse studios in Hollywood CA, two are currently being put together at the Great Linford Manor in England and number 7 is here with us at York Street in New Zealand.

York Street Renovations
Our studio building was built in 1907, It was built to assemble combine harvesters and was owned by the International tractor company. As part of our refurbishment, engineers advised us to remove a huge gantry crane from our largest space. It took a day and we got to watch some life size Tonka toys in action. Serious boy fun!
